Early this morning, Aaron passed away. It marks the end of our and the doctors’ month-long fight for his health. After several weeks in the hospital, he was discharged home yesterday, and we knew there was nothing more the doctors could do. Until the very end, it was the Sisters who cared for him. Aaron left this world wrapped in love and warmth — the kind a child receives from the most caring and devoted family.
We cannot keep anyone with us forever. But we do have the power to fill the hardest moments of their lives with love, to remove loneliness and pain. Aaron left surrounded by people who loved him and fought for him until the very end. He’s surely smiling down at us now from the most wonderful playground, giving high-fives to Gabriela, Frank, and Christopher.
Aaron was born with cerebral palsy. Orphaned by his mother, he came to Kasisi, where, supported by caregivers, therapists, and volunteers, he grew stronger and began to smile more freely. Unfortunately, his fragile body had started to weaken some time ago. The Sisters created for Aaron the most beautiful, precious part of his childhood. We borrowed as much time as we could from heaven so that he could feel loved and special.
Today, remember Aaron, the Sisters, and all the children from our Home who lost a beloved friend and brother.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
