You know very well that our Kasisi is not about suffering, loneliness or tears. For 9 years now we have been showing you how much you yourself can gain by entering this extraordinary world. Here goodness breathes through your skin! It is a Home full of life, hope and new opportunities.
Today it is also a home full of joy and treats. Well, children have their own needs and dreams. Who among us doesn’t dream of being tempted by a sweet dessert every now and then! The House of Mercy girls are preparing one for the whole family. Sweet, delicious!
I remember talking to Sister Mariola about the Pantry for Kasisi. A project that was completely crazy on our part. We wanted to raise funds for better food to strengthen the bodies of our charges, weakened by TB, HIV and other chronic diseases. We had the opportunity to build something, to have an impact on infrastructure, on development, so we decided we would feed. Have we seen the results? Sure! Kasisi residents are not getting sick like they used to. They are learning better and we are spending less on medical treatment and hospitalisation. A healthy and well-balanced diet is a long-term investment, crucial for the people of Kasisi.
Let’s get back to the dessert. I remember the moment we told Sister Mariola that we would help and we would stand on our heads to make it happen. Children need to be nourished, but also their dreams need to be fulfilled. One such dream was cakes, which Kasisi could not afford before. We made the children’s dreams come true and that day they could eat the cakes to their heart’s content. We wiped away tears of emotion, because on that day everything changed for Kasisi.
Today, the girls from House of Mercy reminded us of that day. They themselves were craving to eat something ‘good’ and we were able to give it to them. Having dreams is not enough. In Kasisi we are in the business of making them come true!
Help us in this venture! We’ll turn a few zloty spent at the Kasisi Pantry into a well-balanced, nutritious meal that will provide energy for learning and health. And if you can, put something “good” in your basket too, so that you won’t be lacking when the craving comes again.
