It is not always evil or neglect – sometimes simple poverty makes it necessary for a child to live without parents, in a home like Kasisi. This does not mean that they are not loved and that they are not missed. Parents, by placing their children in the hands of loving sisters, are making one of the most difficult decisions of their lives, but they know that in doing so they are giving their children a chance of stability, a plate that is always full, a roof over their heads and the security they sometimes cannot provide themselves, even though it breaks their hearts.
So many children in Zambian orphanages do not have the opportunity for frequent visits from their parents, who cannot afford the travel costs.
Visits make children feel loved, important and included in their families’ lives. This is why at Kasisi we make sure that parents can visit their children regardless of financial difficulties. By donating a ticket to Kasisi for a parent, you are helping children to maintain close relationships with their families.
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
