At the end of 2023, Zambia was hit by a cholera epidemic. As a precautionary measure, kids had their holidays extended or switched to remote learning. Disinfecting gels became the most sought-after product in the country.
When our kids returned to school, we had to prepare a supply of disinfectants for each of them. Now our stockroom is empty, and we need to refill it as soon as possible. There are fewer cases now, but the epidemic still persists.
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
