See those smiling faces? That’s the joy over the new books that arrived in Kasisi today!
These books are many and varied. They include first readers for toddlers, who are learning about the world, but now only with brighter colours. There are school textbooks, thanks to which older children learn about the fascinating life of the oceans, study history or learn new practical skills. There is also fantasy, which takes children’s imaginations high above their problems and allows them to dream their wildest dreams. There are also biographies that teach children the value of work, good deeds and authority, and show them that their difficult past does not limit them in any way.
The books you buy as part of Shop for Kasisi are already filling up the library which you have funded. We want every child to have easy access to them, be able to pick them up at any time and immerse themselves in reading.
This is very important to them. Each page helps us to pull the children out of the clutches of a difficult past. Thanks to them, they have a chance to discover that the world is not all black and white. As William Somerset Maugham said, “To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life.”
And if you would like to add your contribution to this safe, wonderful haven, we sincerely encourage you to donate a book or a school kit.
Santa Claus never had it easy in Kasisi 😉 Over 230 children live here. Sister Mariola has already rushed to his aid and is quietly preparing presents!
Many of us still leave a free seat at the Christmas Eve table. Let one of our children sit at it this year (at a distance, but very much for real) and invite them to the table today!
