If anyone doubts that for the kids of Kasisi breakfast is the most important meal of the day, come check it out. Just abandon plans to sleep in, because from six o’clock in the morning, whether it’s Wednesday or Saturday, there’s a long queue full of children’s laughter outside the dining room!
And if you do sleep through breakfast, however, the auntie will have no mercy – she’ll come in with a full plate and tell you not to fool around. We write from experience!
The aunties just keep an eye on maintaining stable energy levels in Kasisi. If it wasn’t for breakfast, where would James get the energy to disassemble electronic devices? How would Blessing Mapalo climb walls like spiderman? Even the always-smiling Hilaria wouldn’t be laughing if her favourite scrambled eggs vanished from her plate.
Today’s European breakfast day may be symbolic, but for our kids a healthy breakfast is a really, really basic need. Kasisi is powered by morning plates of nshima (gruel), scrambled eggs and the obligatory green side dish. The Belchatow power station can not compete.
Take a look in the pantry today and give the kids each a plate of wholesome breakfast!
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
Our dream is to make the babies’ bedrooms look like a truly homely, safe environment that is associated with warmth. Will you help us make this dream a reality?
