The name Lucky seems to have been given perversely. Or maybe it was wishful thinking – as if naming a four-year-old Lucky would convince the universe that there has been some kind of mistake and the toddler deserves new legs. Ones with fully developed shins that would allow him to fulfil all his dreams: from the smallest ones of reaching his favourite toy, to the bigger ones that will still come to him – such as going into the halls of a university on his own and receiving his university degree.
Kasisi receives a dozen children like Lucky every year. You know Amanda with cerebral palsy. Angela with Down’s syndrome. Kenneth, for whom a serious viral infection ended in partial paralysis.
The daily cost of a child’s physiotherapy is on average PLN 11. It only takes 11 kilos of unwanted clothes ( an amount that each of us can find in our wardrobe) for Lucky, Amanda, Kenneth and the other children to get another day on the road to independence.
11 kilos is the weight of a few chunky jumpers from last season. It’s all the minimally too small pairs of trousers. It’s the weight of a few pairs of shoes that have led you for miles and you think the next few miles you want to walk in a different style.
11kg is ultimately the weight of Lucky’s dream to approach and embrace Mamusha one day without any help from a walker.

All you have to do is go to the fundraiser we’ve added below this post and donate 11 kilos of clothes you no longer like to Clothes to Donate. All you have to do is pack them in a cardboard box and hand them over to the courier – completely free of charge!
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
Our dream is to make the babies’ bedrooms look like a truly homely, safe environment that is associated with warmth. Will you help us make this dream a reality?
