At such moments, Sister Mariola, as she herself writes, is bursting with pride. Children teach us adults how to love and appreciate those who have had a harder start in life.
This group of children is cheering on Lucky, who is struggling with a mobility disability. It’s a touching lesson about brotherhood, love and equality. We know that the example comes from the top – not only from the sisters, but also from you: the adoptive parents and all those who support the kids at the Home in Kasisi.
When Agnieszka, our Donor Advocate, takes your calls, she is often confronted with questions: “Which little one needs the most urgent help right now? Can I take care of a disabled child? Which child is the least likely to get letters from parents?”
And we know that your hearts are as big as the kids’ joy at every additional metre Lucky has walked.
We say that in Kasisi one breathes goodness through the skin, but it is you who provide this goodness and make disability and a difficult start irrelevant. We encourage you to visit Lucky, our little powerhouse, who will be delighted to receive a favourite chicken for lunch or a plate of nshima. And we will be flying over on the 4th of December to ask him in person if he enjoyed it.
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
Our dream is to make the babies’ bedrooms look like a truly homely, safe environment that is associated with warmth. Will you help us make this dream a reality?
