We do not know the exact date of birth of the little girl. When she was admitted to Kasisi, she was estimated to be around four years old. Unfortunately, she suffers from cerebral palsy and is also blind. Her mother decided to leave her in the care of her grandmother while she struggled to survive on the streets. Despite the grandmother’s efforts, she was unable to provide the proper care her granddaughter needed, so she decided to place her in a care institution, from which Grace came to Kasisi. Despite her blindness, Grace finds other ways to experience the beauty of the world around her – her exceptionally heightened sense of smell allows her to recognize the people who visit her, and when she wants to express her affection, she reaches for their hand to convey her feelings with a gentle squeeze. She undergoes rehabilitation twice a day, which helps her develop skills and maintain the best possible health.
The metal cots and worn-out mattresses have lulled generations of Kasisi kids to sleep, but are now in desperate need of replacement.
Our dream is to make the babies’ bedrooms look like a truly homely, safe environment that is associated with warmth. Will you help us make this dream a reality?
