The boy is at Kasisi with his younger siblings, Faith and Misheck. A few years ago, their father passed away. With nowhere to turn, their mother followed local customs and sought shelter with her husband’s family. Unfortunately, she was met with refusal and a lack of support, despite asking for help in several places. As a result of these hardships, the children had to stop their education, which was a devastating blow for them. Desperate, their mother returned with the children to Lusaka. Realizing she was in a hopeless situation, she turned to social services for help. Recognizing her desperation and need for support, they referred the siblings to us at Kasisi. Here, Caleb and his siblings found a safe haven and a chance for a new life. They now receive care, support, and have the opportunity to continue their education. Their mother can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing her children are in good hands.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
